For those unfamiliar with blogs, the name is short for Weblogs, an online journal that allows for comments made by any visitors to the site. This interactivity is similar to what you might see in forums or message boards with one significant difference: only the site owners/authors may start a new thread or topic. You might deduce that this limits group participation, but nothing could be further from the truth. Many sub-topics can and do occur within the comments section under a particular blog entry.

How to Find Your Way Around
The menu at left has a number of sections, each providing different entry points within the blog.

Categories
All blog entries are categorized according to a topic area defined by categories. For example, the Consider This... category is specific to the Consider This newsletter and topics that arise from discussions made on this blog and other forums. So, if you wanted to find a discussion on a topic that was raised in last month's newsletter, you could click on the Consider This category to see a listing of all blog entries for that category.

Archives
Each blog topic (and the comments that are made) are archived according to date. If you want to look for all blog entries during the last month, you only need to click the appropriate month to see all entries.

Recent Entries
These links represent the five most recent blog entries made. Clicking these links will take you directly to the entry page (whereas the Categories and Archives just take you to an index of topics). While repetitive on the home page as it also display the ten most recent posts, the section becomes more relevant as you explore other pages within the blog.

Blogroll
This is another made-up name. These are links to other blog sites relevant to senior issues.

XML
If you have what is called an aggregate news reader, this is the link to the page where you would point your news reader at. More information on this technology is available by searching on Google or other search engines.

Viewing the Blog Entry
As mentioned before, visits to the home page, archives, and category index pages will display blog entries, but often not the entire text nor the comments made. To view the entire entry, either click the Read More of ... link or click the links below the entry as illustrated below:
Posted by Shirlee Zane at 4:00 pm | Comments(2)
This will take you to the entire entry and all comments made on the topic.

Making Comments
You can make comments on any blog entry or even in response to another comment. To do so, go to the blog entry as descibed above, and then scroll down to the Make A Comment section. Enter your name as you would like it to appear, your email address (it will not be published, nor will it be used, sold, or rented to anyone), your website address if applicable, and the comment you would like to make. To ensure that automated spam messages are blocked, you will be asked to confirm if you want to post your comment.

To ensure that this blog is a positive experience for everyone, any offensive or inappropriate comments will be edited or deleted.
